i was born

i was born by a well, and they drew me like Rachel, and Jacob waded for fourteen years. and in my lineage, we watched trees till they became branches with boughs of almonds and grew into something more than leaves.

i was born by a lake, and they took me like Moses across the rivers of broken waters, where i watched maternal dreams float by. it became what it needed to be and fostered life by the river’s reeds. and the truth knowing itself watched me grow into someone brave but bold.

i was born by a water grove, like the preacher, i toiled many years to enter rest, and, in the years, i looked to the sky and breathed back to earth; the vineyards, the parks, the herds and flocks, and time became just a ticking clock.

i was born a shepherd tending sheep, i sheared some truths and sold some wool. i was born in a manger with many gifts; my gold are years; my frankincense is time and my myrrh will be memories.

when i was born, hope looked beyond me and i was given the grace to be exactly what faith needed me to be.
