WORDS:
a map engraved on soles of the feet,
landscapes etched on the mind.
inklings across ankles becomes nodes
of wanderlust places which now erode.
neither monsoon but harmattan
neither wildfire but a flood.
both submerge her skin
but we call it an ‘Act of God’.
purple hibiscus and sugar cane stalks
grew on acres of radiant lands
but will diasporas feed our stocks
under the skies of our fading sun.
desert place behind the white veranda.
what they planted did not grow
ask the ones who came before;
what should our children know?
wanderlust skies swelling
what we have become needs retelling
the uprising needs eyewitness;
but continents pretend to mind their business.
tell us what you know
oiled hands promise to let you go.
tell us what you know
commodities prices might be low.
just tell us what you know.
